STEPOLOGY GROWTH -- HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED!

Love tap dance? Looking to help make a difference for tap,
dance,
and/or the arts in general? In search of a proven yet
progressive
cause to which to lend your talents? STEPOLOGY is actively
seeking
individuals to help as the organization continues its
unprecedented
expansion in the San Francisco Bay Area into a year-round
presenting
organization.

Since inception in 2003, STEPOLOGY has been fortunate to
present a
wide array of incredibly talented tap artists, and to
garner an
unparalleled amount of general audience appreciation,
critical
acclaim, and government/foundational support for tap in the
San
Francisco Bay Area. However, 2007-2008 marks a new era for
the
organization -- an era of even more growth in which the
collective
efforts of many more individuals will be necessary to
continue
STEPOLOGY's mission of preserving and propelling the
American art form
of tap dancing.

If you feel you would like to play a part in these
groundbreaking
efforts on behalf of tap in the Bay Area -- from stamping
letters to
planning fundraising events to serving on the STEPOLOGY
Board of
Directors -- please contact STEPOLOGY at 415-294-4941, or
email
stepology@yahoo.com to find out more.

And please, don't wait. Preparations for next year's 2008
Bay Area
Tap Festival are already underway. To get an idea of the
magnitude of
the impact that your efforts can have, check the links
below for what
the critics have to say about the spectacular 2007 Bay Area

Beijing Modern Dance Company presents
in coproduction with anoukvandijk dc and Holland Dance
Festival
Women of the world
Choreography: Gao Yanjinzi, Anouk van Dijk

The Beijing Modern Dance Company is China's most renowned
modern
dance company. Founded in 1995, BMDC has gained
international acclaim
with its surprising performances that mix the rich
tradition of China
with technically masterful modern dance.

The title Women of the World finds it source in the two
female
choreographers who create this double bill: China's Gao
Yanjinzi and
Holland's Anouk van Dijk. Two women from completely
different
cultures, with differing values and traditions, but at the
same time
two strong and selfwilled women who are in many ways
universal.

The work of Chinese choreographer Yanjinzi Gao finds it's
artistic
source in her Buddhist upbringing and traditional Chinese
dance
training. In a contemplative, harmonious world her dancers
move with a
natural flow of energy, yet surprises lurk around every
turn, causing
the audience to question the meaning of such labels as
"tradition,"
"modern," and "East/West."

The Dutch choreographer Anouk van Dijk makes work of a very
personal
nature. Her choreographic work intriguingly combines
virtuoso dance
with a strong theatrical concept. With tangible characters
in an
abstract setting, she creates powerful worlds in which
everyday
realities run smoothly into absurd fantasies.

Women of the World makes up a surprising double bill, in
which the
differences and similarities of East and West both contrast
and
interact in a most original way.

Circuit Productions, Inc. presents Fall Programs Featuring Three
Composers and Their Music Commissions with a Grant from the New York
State Music Fund
• Three composers present their music during Fall performances of
Rhythm Journeys: Masters of Jazz and World music
• Concerts continue to take place in NYC and NYS beginning
November 2007.
Brooklyn, New York, October 2007 – Circuit Productions, Inc., the
recipient of NYS Music
Fund grant ("Music Fund"), announced today that Fall programs will
feature the work of three commissioned composers for RHYTHM JOURNEYS:
MASTERS OF JAZZ AND WORLD MUSIC. The project is a series of free and
low-cost concerts showcasing jazz and world music throughout New York
City and State in collaboration with local cultural and educational
institutions.
Circuit Productions, through its new community outreach series, RHYTHM
JOURNEYS, will provide new music and live performances presenting
senior and emerging artists in a range of culturally relevant music
programming aimed primarily at youth and family audiences in
culturally under-served communities state-wide. "We are thrilled to
advocate for and present such a diverse group of artists," said Susan
Goldbetter, Executive Director of Circuit Productions, "who created
and/or revised their music for new underserved communities throughout
the city and state." The three composers, Sarah McLawler, John Miller
and Andy Algire will each be featured in performances this Fall.
Additional performances will take place through March 2008.
Sarah McLawler will be featured in Carol Sudhalter's Astoria Jazz
Band's program, Women Composers of Queens* on Friday, November 16,
2007, 7:00 pm at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in LIC, Queens.
Tickets are $13 or $10 for students, seniors and musicians! Phone
number for tickets is: 718.482.5151. McLawler's earliest introduction
to music was piano and organ playing in her father's church in
Indiana. Later, she became interested in secular music – Jazz meeting
both the famous Hampton family (Lionel and Slyde) and the Wes
Montgomery family. Shortly after winning a music scholarship to Fisk
University in the 1940's she began touring with the Lucky Millander
Big Band. Striking out on her own she soon formed the "all-girls" band
known as The Syn-Co-Ettes. Their extraordinary popularity brought them
to Chicago where they became the house band at the great Savoy
Ballroom. Ms. McLawler's recordings for Brunswick and Vee-Jay Records
include some of the greatest standards in jazz music. Sarah is a
recipient of a Meet the Composer grant; Outstanding Jazz Artist Award,
St. Peters Church; WWRL's Jazz Woman of the Year; a Lifetime
Achievement from International Women in Jazz; and the Music Danceology
Award. In March 2005 she traveled to Virginia Tech University as part
of a Ford Foundation grant award through Circuit Productions.

"The Music Fund will allow me to create new work, and present it this
Fall (12/20/07) with the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band at the free
Trinity Concerts at One Series," said John Miller, accomplished
pianist, composer and arranger. He has recorded, performed and made
television appearances with the Stanley Turrentine Band for the past
seventeen years. He has also performed with George "Big Nick"
Nicholas, Frank Foster, Harold Ousley, Sy Austin, Bruce Hayden and Dee
Clark. In the past decade John has recorded albums with Count Basie,
Angela DeNiro and the Ron Aprea Orchestra, George Jackson, Mel Bliss,
The Baritone Saxophones, and Gene Gardener and the Jazz Recoverers.
Mr. Miller has also taught his art extensively throughout New York
State and has his own company, Jomil Music. Currently, he is the lead
pianist for the legendary Harlem Blues and Jazz Band. They recently
appeared at Westchester Community College, the Museum of the City of
New York and the Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts at Brooklyn
College.

"It's been an extraordinary opportunity having this source of funding
to encourage my work," said, Andy Algire, composer and performer. Andy
plays drum set, congas, African drums and percussion, balafon (wood
xylophone), kalimba (thumb piano), keyboards and piano. His
performances include the Kennedy Center with Rhythm Exchange World
Music Ensemble (REWME), Manhattan Tap, the Lakestreet Foundation and
clubs, theaters, festivals both nationally and internationally. For
the past five years Andy has worked closely with Irene Koloseus's
Féraba: African Rhythm Tap Dance. Artistic Director, Koloseus - a
prolific tap and African dance choreographer- creates unique rhythmic
patterns using her feet as an additional percussive instrument. The
two are currently working on Andy's new work "Sound Bridges" which
will be heard during their free performances in "Rhythm Journeys" at
Bronx Library Center (11/17/07) and in Westchester, Mt. Vernon and
Pelham in March 2008.

The New York State Music Fund published guidelines and criteria and
accepted grant applications in a number of categories, including music
education and public performances of music by artists working in hip
hop, reggae, fusion, jazz, classical and folk music of all cultures.
Applications related to recording, distribution, or broadcast through
traditional or new media were also eligible. Special emphasis was
placed on reaching underserved populations and broadening awareness of
artists, genres or styles with limited access to commercial broadcast
or other mass distribution vehicles.
Advisory Panels comprised of recognized leaders from a cross-section
of the music world evaluated and recommended applications based on
criteria focusing on artistic merit and community impact. The award to
Circuit Productions was among nearly 400 grants totaling more than $35
million made by the Music Fund.

All three performances were made possible, in part, with funding to
Circuit Productions, Inc. from the New York State Music Fund,
established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller
Philanthropy Advisors.

*The performance, Women Composers of Queens is made possible (in part)
by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funding from the New
York City Department of Cultural Affairs."

CORRECTION - Gabby Glaser/Rock 4 Darfur starts at 7:30pm, Sat. Nov
10th (NOT 11pm)

Here's the deal, folks,

if we go to one of the November 10th concerts on the Rock 4 Darfur
MySpace page, we'll have fun and be a part of this thing that will
hopefully become a movement or at least raise general awareness about
the criminal situation in Darfur in the Sudan. I don't know much
about this lady, but she seems pretty cool, and the cause is one I
care about. Can't see anything wrong with partying for a good cause,
in addition to partying being a good cause in and of itself:-)

The Annex NYC is located on 152 Orchard Street in the Lower East Side
- show begins at 11pm

GABBY GLASER BIOGRAPHY

Gabby Glaser, co-founder of Luscious Jackson, has always had her eyes
on the future, feet planted in past, and a sound that defies time. For
over a decade she has brought together the disparate sounds of rock
and roll, hip-hop, funk and country. She was a staple of rock clubs
and dance floors long before the dancepunk craze and continues to
bridge these worlds in a way no one else can. Since Luscious Jackson's
hiatus in 2000, the band's revolutionary sound has grown more mature
and far-reaching in Gabby's solo work. is all garage fuzz and reverb,
yet Gabby's uniquely lush warm sound permeates the entire album. One
minute she juxtaposes cowbell clicks with shrieking guitars and
blown-out boombox vocals and the next minute the sub woof growls
amidst keyboard blips and a hi-hat borrowed from the Dirty South.

The gritty "Spirit of Long Island" starts things off with a garage
stomp and one of her inimitable instantly memorable choruses. "Fruit
is Sweet" marries disco's guitars and live percussion with a downright
dirty synth bassline guaranteed to crowd dancefloors. All throughout,
her voice seduces you, particularly on the sultry "Find Love." Gabby's
solo debut, Gimme Splash, is the soundtrack to the best block party
of the summer. You will want to play it repeatedly and dance on your
stoop. It manages to be intelligent and innovative without ever
sacrificing the fun. They may be tearing down Coney Island but Gabby
has given us all of the energy, excitement, heat, and adventure of a
New York City summer in these songs.

Her band The Great Ones features Sammy Siegler (Nightmare of You,
Rival Schools, CIV) on drums, Tia Sprocket on bass, Ian Love (Rival
Schools, Cardia) on lead guitar, and of course, Gab herself on lead
vocals and guitar.

Gabby founded musical group Luscious Jackson with her old friend Jill
Cunniff in the early 90's. They combined their love of rock and roll,
early rap, 70's funk, dub, and whatever else they felt like throwing
in to create a sound all their own. Starting with looped beats, live
guitar riffs, samples and sloppy keys, they completed their demo. They
played a couple of shows with just the 2 of them and a DAT player but
decided it'd be far better to have a live band and found both the
great Kate Schellenbach to play drums and Vivian Trimble on keys.
Their demo got into the hands of their friend Mike D. of the Beastie
Boys and he and the rest of the boys asked them to be the 1st band to
be signed to their new label,"Grand Royal." With Gabby's mother's
teenage boyfriend on the cover of their 1st EP (and a bottle of Colt
45 between his legs), In Search of Manny was released. Soon after
they were booked on the Lollapalooza tour, things really started
taking off. They played with loads of fantastic bands throughout their
career, toured around the world, and released three more albums. After
a great run, they decided to call it a day in 2000. Since then, Gab's
been writing plenty of songs and jamming with various people. Most
recently, she's teamed up with three phenomonal musicians with whom
she's played some fun shows in NYC with and recorded an album's worth
of songs. The line- up is Sammy Siegler (Nightmare of You, Rival
Schools, CIV) on drums, Guyora Kats on bass, Ian Love (Rival Schools,
Cardia) on lead guitar, and Gab herself on vocals and guitar
