Hello Capoeira Community

I would like to invite you to a very special roda in honor of the lives lost and current devastation in Japan.

The upcoming roda will be on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Bank Street College, 610 West 112th Street, there will be a warm up class and roda for a minimum donation of $5 dollars. We encourage professors, instructors, graduates, students and friends to come and show your support for this very good cause.

There will be no logos and I invite all groups to come together, because this is bigger then any organizations name. Please come together and show your support - and show our New York community and the world how strong our capoeira movement is.

Donations will be made to the Japan Society

Japan Earthquake Relief Fund
Japan Society has created a disaster relief fund to aid victims of the Tohoku earthquake in Japan. Over the years, Japan Society has partnered with several Japanese and American non-profits working on the frontlines of disaster relief and recovery. 100% of your generous tax-deductible contributions will go to organization(s) that directly help victims recover from the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunamis that struck Japan on March 11, 2011.

Japan Society is investigating and vetting organizations that can make the maximum impact, both in terms of immediate relief needs as well as the longer term recovery process. Please bear with as we work out these important details.

Please sign this pledge (http://nydcollective.com/2011/03/15/dancers-rights-and-wages-unity-petition). This is designed to be implemented in an action plan for dancers which will help change the means of protection on various jobs and issues facing dancers in their careers.

Taking the time to sign this is absolutely crucial to the movement which dancers have been screaming for for so long. Signing takes only 5 seconds, and confirming an email.

Remember, only you can make this change. How can change be made if you are not willing to invest 5 seconds of your time for something that is so easy to do, yet so impacting. The only way the dance "stigma" can change, and the cosmetic of what is portrayed, is by deciding that you are willing to finally take a step forward for the "bigger picture". Let's not only worry about self, but about others as well.

Thanks!!!
