Roxane Butterfly- Symphony space fundraising effort for "In the Spirit Of Jimmy Slyde''

Greetings from Barcelona! I know many of you wonder where I have disappeared. No worries, I am nowhere near retirement. 2009 has just been one of these unwanted years where no work (nor fundings) have been available to either my company or myself, including as a teacher. And so, it became simply impossible sustaining basic living expenses in New York. I took myself to Spain for a while, where it is possible to feed myself, keep a roof over my head and practice daily ( for free !), even when no work is coming in. Morocco being very close, I could also commute there easily and contribute to bringing tap-dancing to this part of Africa. Such has been my anti-crisis antidote. The show must go on ''à la Hoofer''. The season of April 2010 will bring me back to the US, upon the invitation of Symphony Space, to put together a tribute to Jimmy Slyde and to feature the documentary film I dedicated to my mentors ''In The Spirit Of Jimmy Slyde'' ( which link you can check at http://worldbeats.free.fr , section THE FILM). In order to help this event happen, I will once more rely on my loyal supporters generous contributions, whatever they may be. Small or big, it is YOUR motivation to join the effort to keep the creative flow going, that matters. Even sending this email around to people who have more money than you and just as much of good taste and wish to contribute to the art, is HELP. On the following link, you will find the directions on how to make a tax deductible contribution to ''The Spirit of Jimmy Slyde'':http://sites.google.com/site/roxanebutterflyworldbeats/contact-donations I am looking forward to being back ''home'' and share with you the spirit, knowledge and joie de vivre that was passed on to us straight from the sole of the ''originals''. The tribute will not be a nostalgic retrospective of a forever gone time. Rather an upbeat celebration of an incredible moment in the tap history, with some of the original members of Slyde' s (then) ''young lions'' and his original combo. See you then! And thanks to all for your support, Roxane

September at Jazz at Lincoln Center!

JALC Concerts

Ornette Coleman
September 26, 8pm, Rose Theater
It's part of your birthright to love the music of Ornette Coleman. Like Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker before him, Ornette thoroughly changed the course of jazz when he exploded on the scene in 1960. Over the past fifty years, Ornette's music has taken many forms, from his large-scale symphonies to his electric bands. But whatever he plays, it's as challenging as it is accessible: both food for thought and food for comfort.

M.A.D.D. Rhythms to perform at Fundraiser for Baba Kwesi's "wrongly imprisoned" Son

M.A.D.D. Rhythms to perform at Fundraiser for Baba Kwesi's "wrongly imprisoned" Son Baba(Swahili for Father) Kwesi has produced a FREE Kwanzaa celebration since before M.A.D.D. Rhythms began. He has been a tireless crusader for the community and he works 24/7 to create solutions for the community. From Anti-Smoking Campaigns to Calls for Balance in the music permeating our children's ears. He is fully vested in the betterment of our community and now he needs the community's support. His son has been wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. As a matter of fact RaVaughn Harris wasn't even there. M.A.D.D Rhythms' main purpose has bee n to steer our youth in a positive direction and we are honored to be able to contribute our talent to help raise legal funds to put a positive, young, motivated brother back into society where he belongs. We hope you will support in any way you can.
