 Miss Thang Cast, Crew, & Friends;

I just got word that The Rise and Fall of Miss Thang will
 be screening
in Nashville, TN as a part of the International Black Film
 Festival of
Nashville. The coordinators are still working on the
 schedule so we
don't have the exact date and time of the screening yet,
 but the
festival takes place from October 4-6.

Miss Thang had a successful screening this past Friday
 night in
Detroit at the Motor City Film Festival where we won a
 Motor City Film
Festival Award. I would like to thank Chris Griffin, who
 was in
attendance to represent his film Partyline, for stepping in
 to
represent Miss Thang as well. Partyline will also be
 screening in
 Nashville at IBFF Nashville.

I do plan to attend the Nashville festival and if anyone
 else is
interested in coming down for the festival please let me
 know. They
are putting together a really good program and it should be
 a lot of
fun. According to their website/press release there will
 be several
seminars including: a one-on-one character creation and
 building
workshop with actor Mykelti Williamson (who played Bubba in
 the movie
Forest Gump), a music for film workshop by Hollywood
 composers Paul
Bolotin and Dig Lewis of SyncMasters (who serve as the
 exclusive
scorers of all music for Oprah's productions), as well as a
 youth
casting call for a children's movie. Also conducting a
 workshop on
Black Women in Film is Julie Dash, Director of Daughters of
 the Dust
and The Rosa Parks Story (the first African American woman
 to have a
full-length general theatrical release). The website for
 the
 Nashville festival is http://www.ibffnashville.com

 Miriam Nelson - bio:

The following Biography is from Larry Billman's book:
 Film Choreographers and Dance Directors
An Illustrated Biographical Encyclopedia With a History and
 Filmographies
 1893 Through 1995

MIRIAM NELSON (nÃ(c)e Franklin, later Meyers)
 b. Chicago, Illinois, September 21, 1922

Miriam began dance studies in her native Chicago and when
 her family
moved to New York, she studied tap with Ernest Carlos at
 the age of
 14. In a borrowed pair of toe shoes, she auditioned for
 Billy Rose's
Casa Mañana, but instead made her professional debut with
 an act
playing Troy and Schnectady. She eventually played the Casa
 Mañana and
next, the Mayfair Club in Boston.

After making her Broadway debut in 1938 in Sing Out the
 News, she went
on to appear in Yokel Boy and Very Warm For May ('39),
 Higher and
Higher and Panama Hattie ('40) and Let's Face It ('41),
 working with
choreographers Robert Alton, Billy Daniel and Charles
 Walters and
 often selected to be line-captain.

When her husband, Gene Nelson, joined the Signal Corps,
 Miriam went to
Hollywood, where she signed an acting-dancing contract with
 Paramount
and was featured in Double Indemnity and Here Come the
 Waves ('44),
Duffy's Tavern and Incendiary Blonde ('45) and Naughty
 Nanette (a '46
short) and in Cover Girl ('44) and The Jolson Story ('46)
 for
 Columbia.

First assisting Paramount dance director Danny Dare, she
 began
choreographing and when Gene was signed by Warner Bros. to
 star in a
series of musical films, she co-created many of his solo
 routines and
coached Doris Day and his other female costars. Divorced
 from Nelson,
she continued as one of Hollywood's busiest TV and film
 choreographers
(along with her tap expertise, she specialized in staging
 party
sequences), as well as being one of the pioneers of
 spectacular Arena
show staging with Disney on Parade in 1969.

As one of the founders of SHARE, she has staged and
 produced their
annual fund-raising Boomtown shows for decades and, as a
 member of the
Professional Dancer's Society (PDS) Board of Directors, she
 also
co-produces and stages their annual tributes to dancers and
 choreographers.

Widowed after her second husband's, producer Jack Meyers,
 death, she
returned to the stage in longtime-friend Marge Champion's
 production
of Ballroom at the Long Beach CLO in 1992.

Juggling the roles of choreographer, tap instructor and
 lecturer,
director and producer (as well as mother and grandmother),
 she is in
the process of writing her autobiography.

Additional information including a list of stage, movies,
 commercials
and TV appearances is on Miriam Nelson's bio page.

Theater at St. Clements, 423 West 46th Street

An incredible line-up of artists has come together for one night only!

Here are the acts we have lined up:

CATCH â€" created by Wendy Seyb â€" an excerpt from a new piece about a
girl coming to the city to discover life; and finding out not
everything is as black and white as she thought, including herself.

SUPER NOVAS â€" created by Wendy Seyb, Mark Gindick, and Kathryn Fraggos
 - is when two air guitar lovers come together; and things explode!

TIME STEP â€" created by Mark Lonergan, Ryan Kasprzak, Brent McBeth, and
Derek Roland â€" a musical tap comedy that jumps back and forth in time
to tell the story of three aging but spirited hoofers.

The Birds â€" created and performed by Jessica Green and Tami Stronach â€"
"The Birds" is a scene taken from "Pinchas the Fish-People and the
Great Flood"--a humorous retelling of Noah's Ark from the perspective
of mermaids, bird-people and other creatures not fortunate enough to
ride out the storm on the safety of the boat.

Classically Trained Musician â€" created and performed by Hilary
Chaplain â€" an extremely nearsighted member of the orchestra is late
for the concert. Does it have anything to so with the handcuffs she's
 wearing?

Die Hard, The Puppet Musical â€" Expertly told through puppets and song,
we bring you the epic tale of New York cop John McClane as he blows
stuff up, befriends a local cop with a weakness for snack cakes, and
kicks some serious terrorist ass to save the puppet he loves.
 Yippee-ki-yay, mother f***er!"

Lulu's (New) in Town â€" created by choreographer Ray Hesselink â€" Lulu
(Broadway's Joyce Chittick) comes to the Big Apple and wants to be a
Radio City Rockette. Little does she know, she's too little.

Acting Classes taught by Mel Williams

Hello all just wanted to spread the word about an amazing acting
teacher and coach that I have worked with. His name is Mel Williams
and he is starting some classes. He teaches the Meisner technique, and
is one of Meisner's Proteges. I have worked with him many times, and
he really has helped me with many roles. A few people he has
coached/taught, and continues to coach/teach are Michael Williams (The
Wire), Mark Webber (Snow Day), and Rich Lyons (coach to Queen Latifah
 and Jennifer Hudson).

So if you need a good acting coach/ teacher his info is below. I
always go to him even when I don't have a play that I am doing because
as we all know you have to be constantly working on your craft in
order to get better. As they say, use it or lose it. The first class
is free for you to watch so you can see if you like it.
