Emmy Award winning choreographer Jason Samuels Smith celebrates his first season of full-length programming at The Joyce with a performance that feature two world premieres, Imagine and excerpts from Chasing The Bird - a project developed from his tribute to Charlie Parker and danced by "exquisite stylists" (The New York Times) Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Chloe Arnold and Michelle Dorrance. The piece combines a diverse mixture of tap as both a musical and visual art form enhanced by the artistry of live musicians, as well as some of Charlie Parker's original tunes that Smith transcribed and choreographed. Live music!

RHYTHM WORLD is the oldest and most comprehensive festival of American tap and contemporary percussive arts in the world. RHYTHM WORLD features an extraordinary master faculty of 18 teachers and two weeks of performance, education and community outreach programs including free public performances, tap jams, panel discussions and extraordinary faculty concerts at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

All classes will be held at the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Performances will be held at Jazz Showcase and Museum of Contemporary Art.

Prague City Tap Festival 2012 is the first year of a new tap festival. The festival comes from a mutual thought of Pavel Strouhal, the director of the festival, and Jason Samuels Smith, an internationally renowned dancer and also the founder and president of LA Tap Fest.

We seek improving the common knowledge about history of tap through additional lectures and panel discussions with the teachers. This year’s festival will feature Prague City Tap Cutting Contest, a first of a kind (in Prague) tap dance battle.

LA MAMA’S “THE ETIQUETTE OF DEATH”

LA MAMA TO PRESENT WORLD PREMIERE OF CHRIS TANNER’S THE ETIQUETTE OF DEATH

PREVIEWS BEGIN JUNE 14, OPENS JUNE 16

New York, NY – La MaMa is proud to present the World Premiere of The Etiquette of Death, a Chris Tanner Production co-directed by Everett Quinton and Julie Atlas Muz, and choreographed by Julie Atlas Muz, with contributions by a slew of New York’s finest downtown artists. The Etiquette of Death, the final show of La MaMa’s 50th Anniversary season, runs from June 14 – July 1, 2012 in a limited engagement at the Ellen Stewart Theatre, located at 66 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & the Bowery in New York City. Previews begin June 14 for a June 16 opening.

Contributing writers and composers include Penny Arcade, Lance Cruce, Angela DiCarlo, Martha Girdler, Jeremy Halpern, John Jesurun, Beena Kamlani, Taylor Mac, Stephen McCauley, Edgar Oliver, Brandon Olson, Greta Jane Pedersen, Jon Ritter, Penny Rockwell, Tony Stavick, Sebastian Stuart and Chris Tanner.

Performances are Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 5:30pm with the exception of the Sunday, June 24 performance, which will be at 2:30pm.
