Workshop Description:
Pandit Chitresh Das is one of the foremost masters of
Kathak, classical dance of North India. Kathak is
comprised of rapid, percussive footwork with bare feet and
wearing four pounds of bells on each ankle, one of the
world's most complex rhythm systems with high level
improvisation, graceful and expressive hand gestures and
storytelling embodying the history and epics of ancient
India. One of the few masters in the world who can
perform the demanding and thrilling traditional solo,
Pandit Das is also breaking new ground through innovation
within tradition and collaboration between traditions.

Most recently, Pandit Das' collaboration with Tap dance
star Jason Samuels Smith has produced an award winning and
critically acclaimed production, India Jazz Suites, which
has toured dozens of U.S. cities, twice throughout India
and continues to tour the U.S., India and Europe.
This master class is geared towards Kathak and Tap students
and will accommodate multiple levels, as Pandit Das makes
the class accessible for beginners and challenging for more
advanced students.
Jason Samuels Smith will be in attendance and he and Pandit
Das will end the class by giving a demonstration of how
these two great artists communicate through their deep
understanding of their respective traditions.

the best of New York City's rhythm tap community come

Hoofers' House has been propelling a rejuvenation of the
genre for the last several years with the addition of live
and electronic music and projected visuals. Prominent past
participants who have graced the floor include figures such
as Fayard Nicholas, Jimmy Slyde, Tina Pratt, Jason Bernard
and Ayodele Casel. So come enjoy the show or bring your
shoes and join the jam!

Hello everyone it, has been a while coming but it has been
worth the wait. With the help of our good freinds at
TECHALTA our new website is up and running with this years
line up. Believe it, we have Emmy award winning Jason
Samuels Smith, and joining him are the tap talents of Chloe
Arnold, Bril Barrett, Sarah Reich and for our Hip hop
friends the amazing Mr. Wiggles. This summer's workshop Tap
Into A Cure, August 13 - 16th, Magical Rhythms Show and
Silent Auction at Festival Place, August 17th, are going to
be the dance event of the the year. People it don't get any
better than this, whether it is in the Hip hop or Tap
world....... we are bringing you the very best! We hope to
see you at our new location in the west end of Edmonton
beside West Edmonton Mall, the world's largest mall, now
the Mom's really will have something great to do while
their children get the dance weekend of their lives. We are
very excited to have the main stage at West Edmonton Mall
for the Tap Jam, August 14th, due to space availibilty it
will be limited to how many can participate with the
greatest tap dancer of our generation, so act fast to
assure your place on stage. Everyone is welcome to come out
and watch the masters jam together for our two great
causes, The Hope Mission and The Africa Project. We are
having a Panel Discussion and Autograph session on
August16th, this is an evening where you get to ask
questions of the faculty, take pictures and get an

CHRP Goes to the Pritzker Pavilion July 28, 2008
Chicago Human Rhythm Project is thrilled to announce that
we have been invited to be a part of Millennium Park's
summer dance program, a season-long concert series held at
the inspiring and iconic Gehry-designed Pritzker Pavilion
bandshell.
This program annually features the finest in Chicago dance
and, like nearly all of Millennium Park's events, is
completely free to the public.
Chicago Human Rhythm Project's performance will take place
on July 28 at 7:30pm, when many of Rhythm World's faculty
will perform alongside youth ensembles and guests from
around the globe. Don't miss this opportunity to see the
largest city-sponsored concert of tap dance in the history
of Chicago, featuring some of the best tap masters in the
world!

New Web Site
In just a few weeks, Chicago Human Rhythm Project will be
rolling out a brand new web site! Starting with a whole
new look and feel, we've redesigned everything in an effort
to make things easier for you.
The site will be administered using a content management
system, meaning that CHRP staff can make immediate updates
to every page of information. We look forward to keeping
our supporters aware of everything that happening, as it's
happening.
The site will feature many new great components:
• Tap Forum where tap enthusiasts can discuss ideas,
coordinate travel arrangements and ask/answer questions.
• Blog, updated by CHRP staff and guest bloggers that will
provide an inside look at everything we do.
• Lots of new media, particularly sound and video.
In conjunction with this redesign, we've also updated our
logo (see above). We love the design and look forward to
making it a part of CHRP's visible campaign.
The new site has a tentative release date of May 1, so keep
checking back.

Free Tap Classes for National Tap Dance Day
Join us one hour before our Windy City Rhythms concerts for
a free tap class, taught by one the weekend's great
performers! All ticket holders are invited and tap shoes
are NOT required. Learn a few simple steps and have fun
before the show begins. Classes will be held in the second
floor hall, just one flight below the theater entrance

Tap taps into Primetime TV
Tap was center stage last week during the first night of
the new CBS reality show "Secret Talents of the Stars."
Pop singer Mya showed off her rhythm skills with a cast of
tap stars backing her up, including CHRP friends Tre Dumas
and Lisa LaTouche, just to name a few.

Artropolis
CHRP has been featured in this year's Atropolis guide, an
annual event held at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago's
destination for art and design, April 25-28, 2008.
