NEWS UPDATES & EVENTS
-----------------------------------------------------

HELLO TAP COMMUNITY,

I wanted to let you know of a great program here in NYC and
of an opportunity for your contribution to make a
difference on the continuing education of tap for all
ages...My 4 year-old daughter Kaia would not have been able
to participate in this program for the past two years
without the help of a Gregory Hines Scholarship and I know
of many others who directly benefit as well. They just had
a wonderful 1st year concert performance up at Symphony
Space, and seeing so many happy kids being able to perform
with ease just simply confirmed how much of an asset their
program is to NYC youth and teens.

They have the Spring Gala Benefit coming up on May 20th.
Tickets are $250 each and they usually have an entertaining
evening planned full of special guests and of course
performances by their Youth Ensemble. If you'd like to
contribute by attending this gala event, please call
646-230-9564 for your invitation.

There has been an offer to match any donation that is made
after the minimum of $100,000 has been reached for up to
$30,000 total. Since I know the direct impact this has on
the community here in NY, I wanted to take the time and ask
you to consider your tax donations for this year by sending
your contribution of any amount to:

American Tap Dance Foundation
18 West 27th Street 6th Floor
New York, NY 10001

Thanks again for your attention in this matter.

Respectfully,

A Word from Dianne Walker & Derick Grant, Co-Directors
Welcome to the 18th year of CHRP's Rhythm World. We are
excited about the opportunity to add our artistic voices
and enthusiasm once again to the continued development of
CHRP, and we are already gearing up for the 20th year
celebration! We invite you and our artists to join in the
opportunity to learn, share, have fun, and enjoy our common
passion for tap dance while celebrating in Chicago.

We have again assembled a great faculty. These women and
men have demonstrated a commitment to excellence through
both education and performance, and we are proud to have
them as our faculty for this year. Classes are designed to
offer the highest quality educational experience that will
attract participants from around the world.

Some of this year's highlights include tributes by faculty
members. Ted Levy will pay tribute to his mentor, Finis
Henderson, of the Sammy Dyer School; Martin "Tre" Dumas
will recognize the work of Tommy Sutton, and Dianne Walker,
Joan Hill (Leon Collin's accompanist), Barbra Duffy and
others will pay tribute to the legacy of Leon Collins, who
was also from Chicago.

We're also glad to welcome back from Chicago Billy
Siegenfeld of the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project and Mark
Yonally, Artistic Director of the Chicago Tap Theater.
International guests include Guillem Alonso from Spain and
Fernando Barba of Barbatuques in Brazil.

The young dancers' program will be taught by Reggio "The
Hoofer" McLaughlin and Derick Grant. Other highlights
include the cutting contest and, new this year, a
performance showcase. We're also excited that we have
evening classes from 6:15-7:30 and 7:30-8:45 for the later
after-work crowd.

We hope to have a lot of time to spend together enjoying
the beautiful and scenic Chicago. We are delighted to be a
part of the CHRP family and look forward to the continued
growth and development of this American institution. Can't
