A Message from Cobi Narita: Re. Closing of Cobi's Place by
the Fire Department on Nov. 9.
I'm writing to you to reassure all your readers that the
elevator is
perfectly safe, only VERY VERY SLOW. Someone who comes to
our concerts
and was upset that the elevator was so slow, reported us 5
times to the
Fire Department as having an unsafe elevator! Manny's has
the elevator
inspected, checked or looked at a minimum of at least 6
times a year,
since, yes, it is an OLD SLOW elevator.
One problem, as everyone who's been there knows, was that
the old
doors, A COUPLE TIMES IN 7 YEARS, jammed shut, would not
open to let
anyone into the elevator, and we walked down the stairs
into Manny's
and out the door to the street. Manny's staff stayed to
help us out -
no one panicked - everyone was cooperative and helpful. So
we weren't
closed due to the elevator, but because I did not have two
ways of
egress (elevator does not count).
Although I must rest a couple of months due to problems
with my
health, I am looking for another space to continue my
special three
events: vocalists' open mic, tap, and Delilah Jackson's
films. I love
these three events!

By the age of twelve Charon Aldredge had performed on
stage, film, and television with Honi Coles, Debbie Allen,
and Savion Glover. She spent her early teen years
performing jazz and hip-hop on Disney’s kids show “Kids
Incorporated”, her high school years performing hip-hop in
various music videos and tours, and her college years
furthering her ballet and modern training in addition to
the art of choreography at New York University’s, Tisch
School of the Arts. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine
Arts from NYU, Charon went on to perform all over the
world. She was featured in the national/international tour
of “Riverdance the Show”, “Cab Calloway’s Legacy of Swing”,
Savion Glover's Improvography ll at Hollywood's Kodak
Theatre, and she was one of the first tap dancers to ever
perform at Russia's Kremlin Palace Theatre. She is the
founder of Kiddie Rhythms™ Performing Arts Programs &
Workshops, which was created to provide youth in low-income
areas easy access to the performing arts. Charon continues
to perform and choreograph professionally in Tap, Jazz,

DANCE AUDITION NOTICE
ALL LEVELS
The Annette Hawkins Dance Ensemble is looking for dancers
to fill
company positions, and to perform in the 4th Annual "DANCE
SISTAH,
DANCE" FESTIVAL. Dancers interested in auditioning may do
so by
presenting a 30 second routine, or by completing a few
technique
exercises and a short routine given by the choreographer.
We are
seeking 10 female dancers who enjoy Jazz, Hip Hop and
African dance
styles. Experience is not necessary, but a positive
attitude and the
ability to learn quickly is. Auditions will be done on an
individual
basis, and rehearsals will be held on Saturdays from 10:30
to 12:30.

The Hawkins Dance Ensemble exists purely for the joy of
dance and for
inspiring others to dance. This is non-paid position and a
small
monthly fee is necessary to cover expenses. As members of

perform several
times a year. We aim to provide opportunities for dancers
to indulge
themselves in the many expressions of dance. This includes
the
opportunity to learn, teach, choreograph and perform pieces
of several
styles. We produce two major concerts per year to showcase
the talent
of our members and students.
The Annette Hawkins Dance Ensemble performs regularly at
Cultural
