Miss Thang in Music City this Saturday!  
 
The award winning HD feature, The Rise & Fall of Miss 
Thang, will be screening this coming weekend as part of the 
International Black Film Festival of Nashville. Miss Thang 
will screen at 5:30pm on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the 
Belcourt Theater located at 2102 Belcourt Street in 
Nashville, TN. The festival takes place from October 4th 
through 6th and will feature films, panels, workshops, and 
parties.  
 
The film, which recently won the Motor City Film Festival 
Award in Detroit, stars Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, a world 
renowned tap dancer who made history when she became the 
first female performer in Savion Glover's Bring in 'Da 
Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk on Broadway. Writer/Director 
Stacie E. Hawkins will be attending the festival and there 
will be an audience Q&A after the screening.

Pipa virtuoso and composer Min Xiao-Fen returns to The 
Kitchen with a new commissioned work, Return of the Dragon 
, that interweaves diverse musical influences including 
Chinese folk music, American jazz, and bluegrass. The 
performance features Xiao-Fen (pipa and vocals), Okkyung 
Lee (cello), and Satoshi Takeishi (percussion and 
electronics).  
 
Opening the evenings is Guillermo E. Brown, who tests the 
boundaries of free jazz and hip hop in Syrup, a new 
collection of electro-acoustic sonic explorations 
influenced by Afro-Latin and Caribbean music. Syrup 
features Brown on drums, vocals, and electronics, Shoko 
Nagai (piano, keyboard, and electronics), and a guest 
percussionist.  
 
Music programs at The Kitchen are made possible with 
generous support from the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable 
Trust, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, The New York State 
Music Fund, and with public funds from the New York State

the 3rd Annual Chicago Tap Summit October 12-14. Over 10 
of the 
worlds most renowned Tap Dancers will come together from 
New York, St. 
Louis, Chicago and Canada to teach, perform and celebrate 
the art of 
tap dance. This year's Summit will posthumously honor 
Chicago's own 
Sammy Dyer. Dyer, instructor of tap and stage shows for 
Muriel Abbott 
and the famous Abbotteers, also produced cafe shows at the 
old Sunset 
Cafe, Club Morocco, and Club DeLisa, where he spent 
eighteen years. In 
1933 Mr. Dyer established The Sammy Dyer School of Dancing 
and in 1950 
created the Dyerettes, an African American female dance 
troupe known 
to be the only chorus act of its kind. They toured 
internationally 
with some of the greatest entertainers of the twentieth 
century 
including Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., and Sarah Vaughn. 
Special 
guests include Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, star of the newly 
released 
independent film "The Rise and Fall of Miss Thang", Robert 
"The 
Professor" Reed founder, producer and director of The St. 
Louis Tap

goal at DRA is to be available to all working performers nationwide. 
We are able to do this with your unwavering support. What we do 
together really does make a difference. 
 
Better Wellness and You (B'WAY) and The Actors Fund are sponsoring a 
free health fair and flu shot clinic for all entertainment 
professionals. The health fair and clinic will be held on Tuesday, 
November 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Actors' Equity Association, 
165 West 46th Street in New York. 
 
In addition to the free flu vaccinations, the health fair will offer 
blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, information on 
health insurance, nutrition, and bodywork, and free mammograms for 
uninsured women aged 40 and over (pre-registration required for
