FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-- SILENT FIRE PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS:
"START THE FIRE."

Contact: Matina Banks
Phone: (571) 278-8174
Email: silentfireproductions@yahoo.com

(Queens, NY)—On Thursday, August 23rd, Silent Fire
Productions and their partner dance studio, Just East
of Broadway will present their first full length
evening show, "Start the Fire," at 6p.m. Hosted by
the Queens Museum of Art in Flushing Meadows Park,
this show is created for children by children. The
show consists of dance and multimedia presentations
from all over the world, including a traditional
Indian dance done to spoken word rhythms, a rock and
roll piece done to the Red Hot Chili Peppers latest
hit, "Dani California," and a Hip-Hop piece done to a
French rap. The dancers ages range from 7 to 27 and
are equally ethnically diverse.

Open to the public, this free show presents children
of all ages with different images of dance through a
multimedia approach. The goal of the show is to
stimulate new ways of thinking about and understanding
the world around us.

"It's very exciting to see this blend of dance, images
and music come together to reflect an understanding of
the diversity and beauty of the people all around us,"
says Artistic Director, Matina Banks. "Not only for
myself and my company, but for all the children
involved in the show."

The summer program that made this all possible is Just
East of Broadway Performing Arts Summer Camp, located
in Forest Hills, Queens. A small but rapidly growing
after-school performing arts program, Just East of
Broadway focuses on providing its students with a
challenging yet nurturing environment where students
can not only get the experience needed to continue a
life in the performing arts, but develop a passion for
it as well. "This helps students define themselves as
individuals," says director, Rysa Childress. "After
almost four years of partnership with Silent Fire
Productions this is the first full length show that we
have put on together. It's so exciting to see Just
East of Broadway's work combined with a professional
dance company and we both would like to thank the
Queens Museum of Art for making this all possible!"

This performance is the beginning of what Silent Fire
Productions hopes to be a very long relationship with
after-school programs. In addition to producing these
kinds of shows, Banks is making plans to set up a
program within New York City schools during the school
day to work with both students and their teachers to
demonstrate how to use arts and technology to support
children's academic achievement.

"The great thing about performing arts isn't
necessarily the art itself- it's the life skills that
studying and committing yourself to something like
dance can teach you. When you combine art with
technology, as many classrooms are beginning to do,
then you have something. Children these days are
technology driven. The program we are working on will
combine art and technology to teach the basic academic
subjects they are failing to excel in. This will not
only help improve students grades and test scores- it
will give them real world understanding in what they
are learning, which in the end is what the children
will remember and use the most."

"The show earned its title 'Start the Fire' for two
reasons," Childress says. "One was because we want
this to be the first of many shows like this that will
capture the imagination of the children in our
audiences. The second reason is to fulfill the
mission our both our companies- to see the world
through the eyes of children and give them the
necessary skills and confidence, through art and
technology, to live their dreams."

For more information concerning the show or both
companies you can check out Silent Fire Productions or
