Experience first hand the process of creating choreography and what it takes to become a professional Tap Dancer. It's time to Take it to the Stage! Each weekend experience consists of two intense choreography sessions on Saturday and Sunday and ends with an audition for an Off-Broadway Show in February of 2009 (Tony Waag's Sound Check Concert Series) and a chance to perform at Tap City at the world famous Joyce Theater in July of 2009. Fee: $200 for each intensive (plus a one time $25 reg fee) Limited enrollment of 25 students Scholarships Available to Teens (ages 14-19) All classes take place at: Chelsea Studios 151 West 26th Street, 5th or 6th Floor (between 6th - 7th Avenues) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Samuels Smith In less than a decade, Jason Samuels Smith (performer, choreographer, director) has emerged as a multi-talented leader in the Art form of Tap. He won both an Emmy and American Choreography Award for "Outstanding Choreography" for the Opening number of the 2003 Jerry Lewis/MDA Telethon in a tribute to the late Gregory Hines. Mr. Samuels Smith was also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the City of Los Angeles for creating the First Annual Los Angeles Tap Festival in 2003; a Proclamation declaring April 23rd "Jason Samuels Day" from the City of Shreveport, Louisiana; the "Ivy of Education" from Brainerd Institute; and the "President Kenny Award" from Stony Brook. He was also the recipient of an Arts International Grant and an Alpert McDowell Fellowship Award and most recently received the 2007 Gregory Hines Humanitarian Award. In 2004, Mr. Samuels Smith co-starred in Dean Hargrove's "Tap Heat", a dynamic award-winning short film available on DVD. Jason is also a featured dancer in Outkast's feature film "Idlewild". Debbie Allen has featured his talents in several productions including the AMC television series "Cool Women", Sammy (a tribute to the life of Sammy Davis jr.), and in a leading role of Soul Possessed with Patti LaBelle, Arturo Sandoval and Carmen DeLavallade. Other performance credits include the Tony Award winning Broadway cast of Bring in Da'Noise, Bring in Da'Funk in principal and lead roles, Imagine Tap! at the Harris Theater in Chicago in a leading role, Savion Glover's NYOTs (Not Your Ordinary Tappers), Cross Currents: Turned on Tap at the Queen Elizabeth Hall - South Bank in London, the 2002-2003 Harlem Jazz Dance Festivals, TAAP: The Art and Appreciation of Percussion , the NY Tap Committee/Town Hall's 21Below! with Jennifer Holliday, Thank You Gregory: A Tribute to the Legends of Tap, The Cotton Club Returns: A Tribute to Great Jazz Legends, the American Institute of Vernacular Jazz Dance Darktown Strutters Ball Gala, the Career Transition For Dancers 20th Anniversary Jubilee among others. Mr. Samuels Smith is currently performing India Jazz Suites, a dynamic collaboration with Kathak Master Pandit Chitresh Das worldwide. Mr. Samuels Smith founded tap company A.C.G.I. (Anybody Can Get It) as well as JaJa Productions band featuring original jazz-influenced hip hop music with appearances throughout the United States.

The Ailey Extension and E.D. Entertainment. This is a workshop for you. We will spend the next six (6) sessions working to build your strengths. Tools will be provided to enhance the performer, business professional and person in you. In a positive and supportive atmosphere, we work together to bring out the best in you.

CLASS INFORMATION:
WARM-UP/ATTIRE:
Please wear clothes you can move in to warm up and bring additional attire appropriate to your performance/presentation. (Example: Female singers bring heels if you perform on stage in heels.)
PERFORMANCE:
Please prepare a presentation of not more than three (3) minutes. Please bring music on a CD or Ipod and be prepared to have music faded or be interrupted in the event you run over the above time limit. If time allows, Robin will allow longer performances/presentations. Your performance can be less than three (3) minutes.
Please don’t concern yourself with a three (3) minute performance for the first workshop. This is a work-in-progress so please prepare something even if it’s one (1) minute long. If you don’t have anything to perform, don’t worry; focus on being prepared for Sunday, October 12th.
Note to Bboys/girls and Hip Hop Dancers: For dancers attending the Workshop to improve your battle technique and performance, you must sign up in pairs to battle in class.
REFRESHMENTS:
Please bring a bottle of water, hand towel and a piece of fruit if desired. Please be sure to have a balanced meal prior to each three (3) hour Workshop.
SUPPLIES:
Please bring a pad and pen or pencil to take notes and be sure to have music or other materials cued and prepared prior to your performance/presentation.
OPEN HOUSE:
Please note, Sunday, November 9th will be an Open House. Family, friends and industry professionals will be invited. Robin will act as Host and have a panel of industry professionals to provide all participants with helpful advice. Cost to guests: Observation rate: $17.50.
